Do this first

Find it and lock it

  • On another Apple device, open the Find My app. Or on the web, sign in to icloud.com/find.
  • Select the Devices tab or click All Devices.
  • Select your Mac to view its approximate location on a map.
  • If your Mac is nearby, tap or click Play or tap the More button, then tap Play Sound to help you or someone nearby find it.
  • To help prevent unauthorized access, turn on Lost Mode in the Find My app, or select Lost Mac on iCloud.com.
  • When a Mac with Apple silicon is marked as lost, it’s locked with your Apple Account password. When an Intel-based Mac without a T2 security chip is marked as lost, you can remotely lock it with a passcode instead.
  • To lock or erase your Mac, the Mac must be powered on and connected to the internet. If the Mac doesn't have an internet connection, you may still be able to see its location in the Find My app.

  2. 2 Erase it remotely if it's gone for good

    • If you don't think you can recover your missing Mac, you can erase it remotely.
    • This deletes all of your data from your Mac and prevents anyone else from accessing that information. After you erase your Mac, you won't be able to find it using Find My.

  4. 4 No Find My? Protect your accounts Find My wasn't set up

    • Find My Mac is the only Apple service that can help track or locate a lost Mac. If you didn’t set up Find My Mac before your Mac was lost, or you can’t locate it, you can still help protect your data:
    • Change your Apple Account password to prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage) from your Mac.
    • Change your passwords for other accounts you use with your Mac, including email, banking, shopping and social media sites like Facebook or X (Twitter).
    • Report your lost or stolen Mac to local law enforcement. They might request the serial number of your computer. You can find this information on the original box or receipt you received when you purchased your Mac.
